MALAYSIA GULF CO-OPERATION
COUNTRIES BUSINESS COUNCIL (806257-M)

THE GREAT LINK BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND THE GULF COUNTIRES
MGCCBC
BOARD MEMBERS Since its inception in 2008, the Malaysian Gulf Co-operation
Countries Business Council (MGCCBC) has worked
tirelessly towards forging closer ties between the companies
and people of Malaysia and the Gulf countries which consist
of United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait. Saudi
Arabia and Qatar.

Datuk Seri Mohamed Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr As an emerging market over the next decade, the Gulf
Iqbal Rawther Yahaya Ibrahim region presents a vast wealth of potential and possibilities for
President Immediate Past President business partnerships and collaboration. Yet there remains
an urgent need for a better trading system as well as a better
understanding of the business and investment links between
the Arab world and Malaysia, itself holding a central location
in the Southeast Asia region.
To fully realise the mutual benefits of global trade
opportunities, close relations and strong networking are the
cornerstones for any successful partnership. Effective
business leadership, not just political authority, is needed.

And therein lies the Council’s strengths in facilitating strong
business co-operation between industry players from both
Malaysia and the Gulf nations.

Dato’ Ghazali bin Dato’ Dato’ V. Sivaparanjothi The Council began as an initiative by a small group of
Yusoff Deputy President II industry players who saw the keen interest by business en-
Deputy President I tities from the Gulf to establish trading links with Malaysia.
Originally set up as a consortium to organise the Malaysia
Gulf Regional Countries 1st Roundtable and Follow-up
Conference/Workshop/Dialogue in early 2006, the Council
was later incorporated under the Companies Act 1 965,
Malaysia as a limited guarantee company. Realising that the
business community is facing a great challenge with changing
technology, new value systems, freedom of choice, unwritten
business rules dictated by greed and a desire for mutual gain
through interchange and win-win attitudes, the Council has
taken a great number of initiatives in helping the community
to face this challenge.

Norman Nathan Dato’ R. Rajendran Among the initiatives are study tours to view Malaysian
Secretary General Treasurer General housing projects by the Gulf countries’ authorities, the
“Property Arabia” event and seminars like “New Challenges
Alun Jones Dato’ Akbar Moidunny in the Islamic Debt and Capital Markets”. The Council also fa-
Vice President Company Secretary cilitated the Intelligent Home Exhibition (part of the Malaysia
My Second Home concept) plus a number of other important
business-related activities highlighting the growth and boom
in the linkages between Malaysia and the Gulf nations.
With the Gulf nations unveiling a number of Special
Economic Zones to attract investments into the region, the
region is expanding beyond the underpinning oil industry.
In addition, Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World
Cup Soccer, and has become the first Middle Eastern country
to host the World Cup. It is therefore vital that Malaysian
business entities do not miss the proverbial boat given the
collective wealth of expertise and know-how in the
Council coupled with strong relations in place between the
Gulf region and Malaysia.
