Calm Ocean 101 (CO 101), the first Mono-Column Platform www.osea-asia.com

conduct of its inaugural jacking operation on 4 February The Catalyst for

tionalized the conceptual engineering design. Asia’s Oil & Gas

ations. “The Calm Ocean 101 has stood up and proved itself ”,
says Mr Brian. “With oil prices being at half of what it was
six months ago, Calm Ocean 101 is definitely highly compet-
itive compared to the use of high-spec jack-up as well as the
investment on long-term offshore platform. Oil companies
looking for cost-effective solution especially as a result of the
prevailing oil prices will find CO 101 suitably effective!”
The CO 101, with large deck space and ability to handle high
pay load, can be configured as a drilling and early production
unit, accommodation for 40 men to 500 men or as a mobile
offshore production unit / central processing platform that
can be suitably deployed for water depth of up to 500 feet.
Such innovative approach to field development is made
possible with the design and philosophy behind the MCP,
co-developed by industry veteran, Mr. Brian Chang and the
Chief Designer of Bethlehem Mat Jack Up, Mr. Peter William
Nimmo.
Is this new technology? All the components of the MCP are
well proven technologies commonly used in the oil & gas
industry, these components are namely the jacking units, mat
foundation and the steel column. MCP design is basically
a reassembling of existing technologies offering real estate
above water. This will allow oil companies to install equip-
ment on it and bring oil out from the ground in the most eco-
nomical manner. Calm Oceans is offering to lease the MCP,
this would mean oil companies do not need high capital costs
to kick off their exploration or field development projects.
With oil prices coming down from US$110 per barrel, oil
companies are beginning to tighten their exploration and
prodution budget with some projects put on hold and others
looking at reorganising themselves to better ride through this
trough of oil prices. Against this backdrop and given the
